FAQs

Where do you source your ceremonial grade cacao?

Our cacao is meticulously sourced from indigenous Awajún communities in the Upper Amazon Basin, ensuring a direct and fair trade partnership that respects the ancestral roots of the beans.

What sets your ceremonial grade cacao apart?

We prioritize quality at every step, from cultivation to processing. Our cacao is chosen for its exceptional flavor profile and authenticity, making it a preferred choice for chocolate makers and those hosting cacao ceremonies. This means little to no bitterness and a flavor of cacao that few have experienced before.

How do you support indigenous communities?

We believe in direct and fair trade practices. We pay our farmers above market price, allowing them to take care of their families, and communities, promote sustainable agricultural practices, education, and preservation of their cultural heritage.

Is your cacao sustainably sourced?

Absolutely. We are committed to environmentally conscious practices. Our cacao is sourced sustainably, promoting biodiversity and protecting the delicate ecosystems of the Amazon Basin.

Are your cacao products organic?

Not USDA Organic–certified. Our cacao is wild-grown in remote, untouched regions of the High Amazon where formal certification isn’t feasible. Farmers don’t use synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and the groves are far from commercial agriculture. The result is naturally clean, ancestral cacao—grown as nature intended. (We also batch-test for quality and heavy metals at origins; results available here or on request.)

Are your nibs ceremonial grade?

Yes, the Nibs and all of our current products are made with ceremonial grade cacao, the nibs come from the same Cacao as our high Amazon basin origin.

Do you know how much caffeine, theobromine, and polyphenols are in a serving?

We don’t currently lab-test each batch for these compounds, so we don’t publish per-serving numbers. Levels naturally vary by origin, season, and roast.

Theobromine: Cacao’s primary stimulant; typically present in much higher amounts than caffeine.

Caffeine: Present in small amounts—generally far less than a cup of coffee.

Polyphenols/flavanols: Vary widely; our light roast is intended to help preserve them, but we don’t quote mg values.

If you’re sensitive to stimulants, start with 10–15 g per serving and adjust. Want exact data in the future? Join our list and we’ll notify you when batch testing is available.

  • Energy Boost

Caffeine and theobromine in cacao create a synergistic effect, resulting in a powerful and sustained energy boost without the jittery side effects often associated with other stimulants. So, if you're looking for a natural and delicious way to enhance your energy levels, giving cacao a try might just be the solution you need!

  • Highest Antioxidant Source

Cacao is abundant in polyphenolic compounds such as flavonoids and procyanidins, which possess strong antioxidant properties. These antioxidants help neutralize reactive oxygen species and free radicals in the body, thereby reducing oxidative stress and protecting cells from damage

  • Superfood

Cacao contains over 300 different chemical compounds, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and phytochemicals. These nutrients contribute to its superfood status by providing a wide range of health benefits, such as improved cardiovascular health, enhanced cognitive function, and strengthened immune system.

  • Mood Booster

Cacao contains various neurotransmitter precursors and modulators, such as phenylethylamine, serotonin, and dopamine. These compounds play key roles in regulating mood and emotions.

  • Heart Health

Cacao is rich in flavonoids, particularly flavanols such as epicatechin and catechin, which have been shown to benefit cardiovascular health. Flavonoids exert their protective effects by improving endothelial function, reducing inflammation, and lowering blood pressure, thus reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke

  • Stress Reduction

Ceremonial cacao contains compounds such as magnesium and theobromine, which have relaxing and calming effects on the nervous system. Magnesium acts as a natural muscle relaxant, while theobromine stimulates the release of endorphins and promotes feelings of relaxation and well-being.

  • Skin Nourishment

The antioxidants in cacao, including flavonoids and polyphenols, help protect the skin from oxidative damage caused by UV radiation, pollution, and other environmental stressors. These antioxidants promote skin health by neutralizing free radicals, reducing inflammation, and supporting collagen production, resulting in a healthy and radiant complexion.

  • Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Cacao contains polyphenolic compounds with anti-inflammatory properties, such as epicatechin and quercetin. These compounds help reduce inflammation by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, thereby alleviating symptoms of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, asthma, and inflammatory bowel disease.
